FAQ

What is the difference between the two passwords?

The owner password controls permissions (printing, copying, editing). The optional user password is required to open the file — without it anyone can open the document with restrictions applied.

How strong is the encryption?

AES-256 — the strongest standard PDF encryption, applied locally by the same engine as our Unlock tool (qpdf via WebAssembly).

Can restrictions be removed later?

Yes — with the owner password, using our Unlock PDF tool. Nothing is irreversible.

Is my password sent anywhere?

Never. Encryption happens on your device; the password never leaves the browser.
